ORDER FOR WORSHIP

PRELUDE: The Harmonious Blacksmith G.F. Handel

SALUTATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

* PASSING OF THE PEACE

* SANCTUS (pew card)

* CALL TO WORSHIP Jim Nicholas

In your wisdom, O God, you call us here to worship you.
We gather, alive to the Word of God.
You call us to be fully alive with your life abundant, ready to
listen and respond with heart, soul, strength, and mind.
We listen, alive to the Word of God.
You call us to be always watchful for your Word of wisdom,
sometimes startling and unexpected,
sometimes still and quiet, but always dwelling among us.
We watch and wait for the Word of God.

* HYMN No. 692 Faith of Our Fathers

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you.
We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy.
We have not loved you with a pure heart,
nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves.
We have not done justice, loved kindness,
or walked humbly with you, our God.

(Prayers of Silent Confession)
Kyrie (sung): Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON/WISDOM FOR LIFE

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:
everything old has passed away; see, everything has
become new!
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through
Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making
his appeal through us. Therefore, we regard no one from a
human point of view.

SOLO:                           The Lord’s Prayer                          Malotte

Patrick Mahowald, soloist

Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

* HYMN No. 802 Brethren, We Have Met to Worship

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, you are a God who keeps promises.
In our prayers and songs we say
that we want to be Christians,
but then we forget our promises.
Our actions do not match up with our words.
We say mean things to other people,
we hurt their feelings,
we think of ourselves first,
and, worst of all, we ignore you.

(Prayers of Silent Confession)
Kyrie (sung): Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON/WISDOM FOR LIFE

God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he
loved us, made us alive together with Christ.
By grace we have been saved!
For we are created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit!

ANTHEM: Youth Choir                A Family Song             Joseph M. Martin

Sing a song for family, a gift from God's own heart.
For parents who have loved you, and gave your life its start.
For brothers and for sisters, for dear ones near and far;
I will sing a song to tell them just how wonderful they are.
Thank you, God, for family, a gift so rich and fair.
Precious are the moments, the years we have to share.
All along life's journey, no matter where we go,
We will always treasure the memories of home.
Families all are different, just look around and see.
Love is the true measure of who is family.
So, whether it's a parent, a teacher or a friend,
We can all be family, sharing love that never ends.
A love that never ends.

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace,
Streams of mercy never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.

communion of saints called from the entire human family.
Christ’s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the community of believers who have been
reconciled with God and with one another.

OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS

Offertory:                       Once to Every Man and Nation                         David Stanley York

Once to every Man and Nation
comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of Truth with Falsehood
For the good or evil side.
By the light of burning martyrs,
Jesus' bleeding feet I track,
Toiling up new Calvaries ever
with the cross that turns not back.
Though the cause of evil prosper,
Yet 'tis truth alone is strong.
Truth forever on the scaffold,
wrong forever on the throne.
Yet the scaffold sways and future,
and behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow,
keeping watch above his own.
Amen.
