White Christmas

December 15, 2024

Each year the Church on the Hill partners with local organizations to share the spirit and love of Christmas with people in need. Due to your kindness and generosity, we’ve served more than 300 children and adults in New York City in past years. If you are able to, please consider giving a gift this year and help us support BORDERS OF HOPE, LA JORNADA, and P.S. 116.

Due to space considerations, gifts will not be brought up to the chancel during the White Christmas service. Instead, we will be collecting gifts each Sunday at the back of the Sanctuary and during designated drop-off times from now until December 15th.

How to Participate

There are a few ways to participate in White Christmas this year:

Purchase a gift(s) on our Amazon Gift Registry (HERE!) and select “Gift Registry Address” when checking out, so the gifts are delivered directly to the church.

Give a monetary donation in person at worship, by mail, or online using Tithe.ly, our online giving platform. For checks, please include “White Christmas” in the memo, and when using Tithe.ly, select “White Christmas.”

Pick up a White Christmas gift tag during Sunday Worship or during one of the times listed below. Purchase your toy (which should not exceed $15) and please attach the gift tag onto it. Then, drop off the new unwrapped toy during Sunday worship or stop by the office during our designated drop-off times: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10 am- 2 pm, Tuesday/Thursday 1 pm - 4 pm.

**Please call the office first at (718) 358-3671

About Our Partner Organizations

Borders of Hope

Borders of Hope is a volunteer community program providing advocacy and support to immigrant families in Queens. Since 2010, Borders of Hope has provided services to the Ground Zero Latino clean-up workers and their families, and more recently to Venezuelan refugees.

La Jornada

La Jornada is a non-profit organization that provides spiritual, physical, and emotional support and assistance to the immigrant and low-income communities of Queens. Before Covid-19, they distributed groceries to about 1,000 families in Queens each week. Throughout the pandemic, the number has topped 10,000. Volunteers are handing out 1,000 lunches daily, many of them children with growling stomachs.

For the past several years, Church on the Hill has provided hundreds of gifts to the children being served by La Jornada, which are distributed to them on Three Kings Day. The smiles and gratitude are incredible. Please help us to continue this great work.

P.S. 116/The William C. Hughley School

The William C. Hughley School, also known as 29Q116, is located in Jamaica, Queens. We are a Title 1 school with 95% of the families being low-income. We consider our school to be a multi-cultural school since our students are diverse from many countries. We have students from the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Bangladesh, India, and of course from the U.S.A. We are a zoned school for Two Temporary Housing Shelters in the area. We have about 75 students from the STH (Students in Temporary Housing) and multiple families who are doubled up. These are the students we pay the most attention to, to give support since they come from broken homes, abused, lost homes, domestic violence, among other circumstances that may put them in this situation. We give them comfort, love, and support because they need it the most. No one knows what these students are going through. The gifts and pantry items you all send are given to these families. They look forward to the pantry bags on Fridays, knowing they have something extra for the weekend and the students look forward to that gift for Christmas. Their faces light up like bulbs when they come into the office and we hand them that bag with a toy. Some cry, some hug without letting go knowing this is the only gift they will receive. What the Church on the Hill is doing for these students and families is above and beyond. Your help is a miracle for these families. We cannot thank your organization enough for the support. The help, support, work, and dedication that you all are doing for our school community is truly appreciated. May God bless you and keep you all safe. A MILLION THANKS TO CHURCH ON THE HILL.
