As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the LORD our God,

Until God has mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

When we have afflicted others,

whether by our own power

or by our silent support of systems

that oppress, enslave, and crush,

forgive us, Lord.

When we have perplexed others

and purposely confused them for our own gain

or driven them to despair,

forgive us, Lord.

When we have shunned others,

casting them out of our community,

leaving them forsaken and alone,

forgive us, Lord.

When we have struck down others,

casting stones on their dreams and hopes

until they are broken,

forgive us, Lord.

  Youth Choir (Adult on Vs. 3)

Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand;

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;

Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light:

Take my hand, Precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near,

When my life is almost gone;

Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall:

Take my hand, precious Lord lead me home.

When the darkness appears And the night draws near,

And the day is past and gone;

At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand;

Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

* CONFESSION OF FAITH:

From Belhar Confession, Article 2

We believe in one holy, universal Christian church, the communion of saints called from the entire human family.

We believe that the variety of spiritual gifts, opportunities, backgrounds, convictions, as well as the various languages and cultures are opportunities for mutual service and enrichment within the one visible people of God.

OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS

During the offertory, you may bring forward your pledge card and your offering. In some Christian traditions, individuals bring forward their offerings every week to symbolize not only the offering of their gifts but the offering of their whole lives.  In Romans 12:1, Paul encourages the church with these words: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship." We thank you for your generosity and for all the ways you share your lives and your gifts with this church.

       Offertory:               Be Thou My Vision      John Ness Beck

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art.

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom and thou my true Word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father and I Thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Amen.

ANTHEM:                    I Shall Not Be Moved                      Alice Parker

Glory Hallelujah, I shall not be moved,

Anchored in Jehovah, I shall not be moved,

Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,

I shall not be moved.

In his love abiding, I shall not be moved,

And in him confiding, I shall not be moved,

Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,

I shall not be moved.

Though all hell assail me, I shall not be moved,

Jesus will not fail me, I shall not be moved,

Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,

I shall not be moved.

Though the tempest rages, I shall not be moved,

On the rock of ages, I shall not be moved,

Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,

I shall not be moved.

* CONFESSION OF FAITH:                  Belhar Confession, Article 3                                                      We believe that God has entrusted the church with the message of reconciliation in and through Jesus Christ, that the church is called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, that the church is called blessed because it is a peacemaker, that the church is witness both by word and by deed to the new heaven and the new earth in which righteousness dwells.

OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS

       Offertory:                                               David Stanley York

Once to Every Man and Nation

Once to every Man and Nation comes the moment to decide,

In the strife of Truth with Falsehood For the good or evil side.

By the light of burning martyrs, Jesus' bleeding feet I track,

Toiling up new Calvaries ever with the cross that turns not back.

Though the cause of evil prosper, Yet 'tis truth alone is strong.

Truth forever on the scaffold, wrong forever on the throne.

Yet the scaffold sways and future, and behind the dim unknown,

Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.

Amen.

Praise the Lord!

How good it is to sing praises to our God!

For God is gracious and a song of praise is fitting.

The Lord gathers the outcasts, heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

God lifts up the downtrodden and casts the wicked to the ground.

Great is the LORD and abundant in power!

Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God - Savior, Liberator and Lover of all people,

We confess that we have not loved you with our whole hearts

Or modeled your self-sacrificing love that has won our freedom.

We have heard rumors of modern-day slavery

But preferred not to look too closely

At what is difficult to face and painful to think about.

We have chosen to keep our eyes shut and not ask difficult questions.

And yet we remember how you came into our darkness

And always walk beside us, and never look away from us – no matter what.

We are truly sorry – please forgive us and make us more like you.

For all the saints who from their labors rest,

Who thee by faith before the world confessed,

Thy name, O Jesus be forever blest.

Thou Lord, their captain in the well fought fight,

Thou in the darkness drear their one true light.

Alleluia!

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold,

Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,

And win with them the victor's crown of gold.

Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,

And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
