ORDER FOR WORSHIP

PRELUDE: Nocturne in B Major Chopin

SALUTATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

* PASSING OF THE PEACE

* SANCTUS (pew card)

* CALL TO WORSHIP Julia Aiello

Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and
ever.
Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised!
One generation shall laud your works to another. On the
glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous
works:
I will meditate.
The might of your deeds shall be proclaimed, O God.
They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

* HYMN No. 365 Abide With Me

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of life, we come to you as a people hungry for good news.
We have been so dead to miracles that we have missed the world’s rebirth.
We have preoccupied ourselves with pleasures and have overlooked the joy you offer us.
We have been so concerned with making a living, that we have missed the life you set among us.
Forgive us, gracious God.

(Prayers of Silent Confession)

Kyrie (sung):  Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON/WISDOM FOR LIFE

God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he
loved us, made us alive together with Christ.
By grace we have been saved!
For we are created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit!

JUNIOR SERMON

ANTHEM:                 You Are Mine                  David Haas

I will come to you in the silence
I will lift you from all your fear
You will hear My voice
I claim you as My choice
Be still, and know I am near
I am hope for all who are hopeless
I am eyes for all who long to see
In the shadows of the night,
I will be your light
Come and rest in Me

(Refrain)

Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

I am strength for all the despairing
Healing for the ones who dwell in shame
All the blind will see, the lame will all run free
And all will know My name
I am the Word that leads all to freedom
I am the peace the world cannot give
I will call your name, embracing all your pain
Stand up, now, walk, and live

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Lord’s Prayer (pew card)

Response:               In Heavenly Love

In heav'nly love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid,
But God is round about me,
And can I be dismayed?

* HYMN No. 532    Be Thou My Vision

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

O God, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy
Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is
proclaimed, we may hear what you are saying to us today.
Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS:

Psalm 1 p. 424
1 John 5:9-13 p. 991
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

SERMON                      A Community of Testimony                Rev. Blaine Crawford

* CONFESSION OF FAITH:

Belgic Confession, Article 29

As for those who can belong to the church, we can recognize
them by the distinguishing marks of Christians:
namely by faith, and by their fleeing from sin and pursuing
righteousness, once they have received the one and only
Savior, Jesus Christ. They love the true God and their
neighbors, without turning to the right or left, and they
crucify the flesh and its works. Though great weakness
remains in them, they fight against it by the Spirit all the
days of their lives, appealing constantly to the blood,
suffering, death, and obedience of the Lord Jesus.

OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS
     Offertory:        Ave Maria         Jacques Arcadelt

(Translation)

Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of,
Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now, and at the hour of our death,
Amen.
