Candidate 47
COVER LETTER
I am writing to express my deep interest in the senior pastor position with your beloved community at Church On The Hill. This presents a tremendous opportunity for me to serve as an instrument of service and compassion within your congregation. With seventeen years of experience supporting faith communities across the country as a Pastor, as well as serving in nonprofit leadership and spearheading strategic economic justice initiatives in under-resourced communities in Boston, I bring a wealth of unique experiences and leadership training that make me a well-rounded candidate for the Senior Pastor position.
In my roles as the Assistant Pastor of Discipleship at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston and as the Executive Director of Common Cathedral, I have had the privilege of assisting families, faith communities, private organizations, and public institutions in discerning their values, solving challenges, casting vision, and building healthy and transformational communities. As a thought leader in nonprofit management, youth ministry, and community-based learning, I have led essential community initiatives focused on fostering racial reconciliation and dismantling social injustices that disproportionately affect women, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated strategic leadership within faith communities and community organizations. I have led the Bethel A.M.E Church congregation in developing innovative approaches to being, learning, and meaning making in a hybrid reality. Additionally, I have facilitated a two-day retreat for the senior staff at the United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley, emphasizing the crucial intersection between grantmaking and racial equity. As a playback theater artist, I recognize the power of storytelling in uplifting lived experiences, resilience, faith, and the strength of communities. I believe that the spiritual vitality of a church lies at the intersection of building community and utilizing a radical imagination to share the gospel in tangible and relevant ways.
As both a pastor and nonprofit leader, I have developed tangible skills in managing partnerships with foundations, academic institutions, and community-based organizations. In my role as the executive director at Common Cathedral, I have harnessed the transformative power of storytelling to raise awareness and inspire action in support of the unhoused community in Boston. I have had the privilege of partnering with churches of various denominations across Massachusetts, helping them discern opportunities to engage in economic justice through a theological and faith-based approach. I am committed to expanding my skills as a fundraiser and coalition builder to foster greater collaboration between faith-based communities, public initiatives, and private institutions, all for the betterment of communal flourishing. Currently, I serve as the co-chair of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization's Clergy Caucus, where I curate justice-centered learning opportunities for clergy in the greater Boston area. The fellowship and meaning making across cultural traditions deeply resonate with me, and I believe this passion aligns with the heart and values of Church On The Hill.
Each day, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as a pastor. Being a pastor is a fun, exciting, and deeply life-giving vocation. From curating creative digital content to encourage church members in this new hybrid reality, to providing pastoral care to families experiencing grief and loss, I am grateful for the calling to pastoral life. I feel uniquely positioned to help faith communities think creatively about how they can share the Gospel and build community in new and life-giving ways.
Whether presenting on educational equity at conferences or leading investigative Bible studies in small groups, my seventeen years of ministry and nonprofit leadership have equipped me with the intentionality to assist organizations, religious leaders, and faith communities in crafting their own skills to become transformative leaders, capable of sharing their values tangibly. When people unite in common purpose and collective vision, they can construct powerful learning experiences that nurture others and themselves. I am confident that I can contribute to this very endeavor by providing strategic leadership, pastoral care, and a radical commitment to building beautiful community with the loving congregation of Church On The Hill.
With my determination, creativity, commitment to equity, love for Jesus, and passion for sharing the Gospel, I firmly believe that I can be a valuable addition to Church On The Hill.
